I remember Johnny as a shining light and driving force in our CO community. We met through We Are Change Colorado many years ago and I was always inspired by Johnny’s passion to get people to think and engage. One of the things I remember most about him is how encouraging and supportive he was to everyone he met. When new people would come to We Are Change meetings- Johnny would ask what they loved in life and always encouraged us to go after that. He was one of the biggest supporters of my music early on, I had the blessing of jamming with him on the loop station. He loved to make music and was an amazing chef. He was a brilliant light, and continues to blaze a trail for his bravery and courageous spirit. Forever grateful for getting to know this brother~ will always have a place for him in my heart, as a reminder to do what I love, and stand for what I believe in. Rest in Peace & Power Hero Hurley. Love & miss you!!
Johnny was a good man. We shared many conversations about life, liberty, music, helping and protecting others and Johnny was very talented at everything i saw him do. He was a doer a thinker a team player and also a leader and while he learned how to use weapons, Johnny Hurley was a lover. May Johnnys memory continue to be a blessing
I met Johnny at We Are Change Colorado. Eventually, we discovered that we had similar taste in music. I have performed music my whole adult life, on the harmonica and acoustic guitar. Johnny played the djembe very well, and we formed a trio with another friend on electric guitar.
I met Johnny through We Are Change, Colorado, and we became fast friends. Over several years as friends, we collaborated on groups, events, and we went snowboarding and camping while discussing high-minded philosophy and truth. Once he learned about my “big idea” he was one of the first to encourage me to build it, and support me presenting it to the We Are Change community to elicit feedback for user research. It was a pivotal event that brought me into cryptocurrency, and now, 9 years later, I’m neck-deep in code building – largely because of his encouragement and support, and honestly – his legacy. I will dedicate this product launch to him, and he will live on in the spirit of the truth, love, and freedom he espoused and literally died for. I miss him, I will always respect him as a brother, and I will speak honorably of him to anyone who will listen.
I met Johnny through the We Are Change meetings. A few times Johnny came out of some of my headline shows in Denver and interviewed myself and Zoe which is still up. Johnny was a love warrior, a scholar, a historian, a real friend and a lover of freedom and free thinking. Johnny stood for his ideals the day he lost his life and we honor and remember him everyday. I have his sticker next to my desk to remind me of the sacrifices he made for us all. WE LOVE YOU JOHNNY. You live on eternally in my mind and heart brother <3
Johnny was the bringer of joy and curiosity. Wherever he was a good time and a quality conversations followed. Our years together were spent dancing, cooking and contemplating how to insure a brighter future for ourselves and the world. I met him on my very first date with my husband and he remained a part of our lives from that point on. He pushed me to follow my art and let me tattoo him in my early career. We connected on our passion for healthy clean food and the way regulatory systems do anything but help keep our food safe. We have spent many of late nights at live music dancing and laughing. His love for my son meant taking time with him to play games like Zelda and talk Star Wars lore. Him and my husband’s friendship spans from middle school onward where they connected in their love of skirting the line of trouble, skateboarding and making music. To say he was deeply intertwined in our lives is an understatement and we miss him everyday. Johnny was always drawn to stories of the hero’s journey and it’s no coincidence that his life played out to be one of those brave stories. I will continue to look for him in the stars, the music, the art and campfires everywhere I go and hope to be a representation of the love he was for me.
